Career Opportunities F.A.Q.

What career opportunities are currently available at Lexicon Pharmaceuticals?
To view a list of our open employment opportunities, you should search our online database of open jobs. You can narrow your search results using the search fields provided, or you can click on the "View All Listings" link to see a list of all open jobs.

I am interested in an exciting career opportunity at Lexicon Pharmaceuticals. How do I submit a resume?
Each job posting will have a link at the bottom that will allow you to express interest in the job using an online response form. Complete the form and hit the "Submit" button at the bottom of the page. Your resume will then be submitted to Lexicon Pharmaceuticals for review. Submitting your resume more than once for a position will NOT increase your chances of being contacted. You will be contacted only in event that your background and experience are determined to be a suitable match to the position for which you applied.

I would like to include a cover letter with my resume addressed to the hiring manager or appropriate hiring contact. How can I find out the name of this person?
All resumes are received centrally. It is not necessary to address a cover letter to a specific hiring contact. If you would like to include a cover letter and are uploading your resume as a file, you may include the cover letter as the first page(s) of your uploaded file. If you would like to include a cover letter and are pasting your resume into the text box, you may paste the resume after the text of your resume.

How do I know if you received my resume via the online response form?
Once you have submitted your resume, a page will appear indicating that your resume has been received and thanking you for your interest in career opportunities at Lexicon Pharmaceuticals. You will then be asked to complete a voluntary Pre-Employment survey. The appearance of this page is your confirmation that we have received your submission.

What is the Pre-Employment Survey, and why am I asked to fill it out?
As part of our continuing commitment to Equal Employment Opportunity, Lexicon Pharmaceuticals has an Affirmative Action Program for females, minorities, individuals with a disability, Vietnam-Era Veterans, Special Disabled Veterans, and Other Protected Veterans. This plan reflects our policy of hiring and promoting individuals based on ability and potential and without regard to those facts that have no bearing on the execution of job responsibilities. In order to help us comply with federal/state equal employment opportunity record keeping, reporting and other legal requirements, we ask all applicants to complete the Pre-Employment Survey. Provision of this information is VOLUNTARY.

Will my responses on the Pre-Employment Survey affect the progress of my application?
No. The data you provide on the form will not affect our determination of your job-related qualifications. This information will be kept in a CONFIDENTIAL file, separate from the resume and/or application for employment.

I submitted my resume through the online response form. Should I also mail and fax it to you to make sure that you received it? Can I call to make sure that you received it?
If you received the confirmation message after hitting the "Submit" button, your resume has been received, and it is unnecessary for you to also mail and fax additional copies. Submitting your resume more than once for a position will NOT increase your chances of being contacted.

Follow-up phone calls are not preferred.

Will I be notified one way or another of my application status or if the job has been filled?
If you received the confirmation message after hitting the "Submit" button, your resume has been received. You will be contacted by a Lexicon Pharmaceuticals representative only if background and experience are determined to be a suitable match to the position for which you applied. If a job is no longer listed on our web site, this is your indication that the job has been filled.

How long are jobs listed on the web site?
A job is listed on the web site until it is filled or cancelled.

If I submit my resume through the online response form for a specific position, will I also be considered for other positions?
Lexicon Pharmaceuticals recruits on a position-specific basis. This means that you will be required to apply for each position in which you have an interest. You should apply for each position only once.

I am a third party recruiter, and I represent a candidate who is perfect for one of your open jobs. Can I submit the resume online?
Unless otherwise specified, Lexicon Pharmaceuticals prefers to recruit candidates directly. We do not accept unsolicited resumes from any sources other than from the candidates themselves. Lexicon Pharmaceuticals will only pay a fee for candidates submitted or presented where there is a recruiting agreement in place between Lexicon Pharmaceuticals and the recruiter or agency PRIOR to the resume submittal. In the case of candidate(s) submitted or presented to Lexicon Pharmaceuticals by a recruiter or agency without an agreement in place, Lexicon Pharmaceuticals reserves the right to pursue and hire those candidate(s) without any financial obligation to the recruiter or agency. Third party recruiters and agencies should NOT contact any Lexicon Pharmaceuticals employee(s) to present unsolicited resumes. Inquiries should be directed to Human Resources. Your ability to comply with these requests will significantly impact any decision by Lexicon Pharmaceuticals to conduct business with you and/or your agency.
