Solid Tumors
All cancers involve the malfunction of genes that control cell growth and division. According to the American Cancer Society, cancer is the second leading cause of death in the United States. Half of all men and one-third of all women in the United States will develop cancer during their lifetimes. This year, more than 560,000 Americans are expected to die of cancer and more than 1.4 million new cancer cases are expected to be diagnosed in the United States. Prostate cancer is the most prevalent cancer in men, representing 33% of all estimated new cancer cases. In women, breast cancer is most prevalent, representing 31% of all estimated new cancer cases.
